Top 3 Favorites of 2016

As the year comes to a close, I sit here thinking about the beautiful adventures I’ve been able to have. 2016, you have been one hell of a year for me. Many ups and plenty of downs, but yet I wouldn’t trade any of it.

The world is a big place and I’m only beginning to explore all that it has to offer. Here are my top 3 favorite places from this year.

#3 – New York City, USA

New York is a huge city. With it’s long avenues and long list of neighborhoods, there is always something to do. I appreciate this city’s public transportation because the subway literally took me everywhere. This year was my first time paying a visit to the east coast and it certainly isn’t my last. Manhattan is a place to explore for anyone looking for urban adventures.

#2 – Amalfi Coast, Italy

Ahh Amalfi. Although it doesn’t take the top spot for this year’s adventures, it probably takes the top spot for most beautiful place. And those cuoppos (“Cuoppo Amalfi” look it up, it’s delicious!), my mouth is watering just thinking about getting my hands on those things again. Wake up, eat breakfast, go to the beach, eat lunch, go back to the beach, eat dinner, and repeat it all over again for the next day. The timing was perfect, too, because me and my friends happened to book our stay in Amalfi during the celebrations of the St. Andrea festival. Parades every morning and fireworks at night–safe to say we were spoiled in Amalfi. I dream of the next time I go back to that majestic coast because I will be back.. one day.

#1 – Madrid, Spain

And my all time favorite place from this year is Madrid. With Madrid, I associate this place with the people I met and that’s why this place holds such a special place in my heart. Growing up, I had always wanted to visit Spain–Barcelona to be more specific. I finally got to go to Barcelona to see the Sagrada, the view from Park Guell, and walk the streets of this popular city. On a whim, I decided to skip out on my flight out of Barcelona to Brussels. Instead, I booked a one-way train ticket to Madrid and it was the best decision I made this summer. Life is short. Living in healthy spontaneity can sometimes lead to some life-changing surprises.

*Honorable Mention – Rome, Italy

Rome gave me something that no other place has been able to offer me. Endless pasta and gelato. Frigidarium is THE place for gelato! I’d also like to go back to Rome when it isn’t summer time. The streets are flooded with people and I think it takes away from the beauty of the architecture and culture. Nevertheless, Roma is a different kind of beautiful.

So yes, those are my all-time favorites of this year. My goal is to continue exploring the world and find happiness in the simple things. 2017, I’m ready for ya — keep the adventures coming!
